The 2 sites we are getting this year require more organization and this will work to our benefit. We will be involved in 3 community oriented projects and because of this we can and will get good exposure for our concerted efforts........We are requesting proposals for each site. Each proposal must include resume, statement, description/title, and sketches of proposed work. Proposals are preferred via email to Joy Robles or Monika Wuhrer:
joyrobles@nyc.rr.com
monika_wuhrer@hotmail.com

let's focus first on sites for the later part of the year because they will be our big endeavors and call for more permanent works. They are the HighLine and Show World....

The HighLine: The HighLine site is at this point, tentative and needs everyone's creative contribution in order to be realized. This is a high priority area where theproposal will be our most important tool. The HighLine is the overpass on the west side that runs from Gansevoort to 34th street. An icon of industry and trade, the High Line was a necessity for New York City's livelihood more than 70 years ago. Now it is a desolate walkway that through the years transformed itself into a natural vehicle carrying flowers, grasses, seeds, as its cargo. Our objective is to display our works within a two block stretch (preferably within the meat market district) on the HighLine. Another goal is to get a gallery space in Chelsea that will also show works supporting this theme. There are controversies of demolition vs. restoration of the HighLine and weare in support of restoration. There are a couple of organizations already existing that are supporting its restoration (into a garden sculpture walk)and these are the people we will present to. Procedures for this site are more complex than what we've encountered so far and I won't get into too much detail, but it involves a lot of bureaucratic bull--- with property owners, government agencies, rail, preservation groups, etc. It might get pretty heavy and we should be prepared in presenting our great well thoughtout works. Worse case scenario, if we don't get official permission, we're gonna do it anyway, maybe not directly ON the Highline.........but around or under! So the debate about the HighLine goes on.....renovation and decision making processes are slow in the making.........this is where d'Art comes in.......our work supporting its restoration can be a beginning to a positive chain of actions. d'Art is going to push it further this time....let's motivate community action!

Nada Show World: Another intense site! Nada Show World is a gallery and performance space on 8th Avenue and 42nd St. It's above Show World an adult entertainment centerhousing banks of porn video peep show booths. ON April 1, 2001, it attained rights to remain open 24 hours a day. The director of Show World expressed that works should be based on the theme "24 hours" We are scheduled to present works there on Halloween. This is another area where the proposals will work. We want to convince the director to keep our works up for 6 weeks.
